Declan Carmical is a beautiful, sweet baby boy who has recently been diagnosed with cancer. This has stunned our family, but the outpouring of love and support has been unbelievable! Declan was diagnosed with AT/RT (Atypical Teratoid/Rhabtoid Tumor). He had 2 tumors in his brain and 1 in his right kidney. As of today, his right kidney and the majority of one of the brain tumors has been removed. Declan has a very long road to his full recovery but we will be by his side every step of the way.
We’ve created this site to post updates, events and information. Declan’s Family is humbled by the outpouring of support, well wishes, prayers and offers of assistance. We plan to hold several fundraisers to support Declan and his family, and ultimately to raise awareness of his disease. We welcome any and all positive comments, reflections, and suggestions. Thanks again for all of your support and prayers. It’s truly amazing how such a little guy can bring so many people together!
Please keep Declan in your prayers and close to your hearts. ♥
Declan’s Journey Begins…
Declan Black Carmical was born on August 26th, 2009 at 4:46 a.m. He and his little Brother Cole Burke Carmical (born at 4:47 a.m.) were eager to make their arrival into this world and after 33 weeks in the womb decided to come a little early
As a result of their early arrival both Declan and Cole had to spend some time in Loudoun Inova’s NICU. Declan was a strong little boy from the start and while we were told that both the boys would need to spend 3-4 weeks in the hospital, Declan came home after just 5 days. Cole was there for 8 more days but both began thriving at home immediately.
Sherri and Stan Carmical were blessed with 4 amazing boys. Our home has been filled with love, laughter, hope, song and dance for years. Declan and Cole added to our joy and have been filling our home with smiles for the last 6 months. Up until this point in Declan’s life he has been a healthy and happy baby boy. Even his days in the NICU were rather uneventful. He’s always been a strong boy. He, along with our other boys, are the lights in our lives…what gets us up in the morning and keeps the smile on our face as we lay our heads down at night.
For the purpose of this web site we will primarily be speaking of Declan but you will hear about his family too.
So why the web page? If you’ve have arrived at this site, you probably know that Declan is sick. On Tuesday, March 9th, 2010 Declan began a new chapter in his life’s journey and the outpouring of support we have received since the news of Declan’s illness became known has been humbling to say the least. We cannot possibly begin to express our gratitude for all the prayers we are receiving. We also know everyone is concerned and would like to know more about what has happened, what is going to happen, etc. We hope to accomplish this by having one place for our family and friends to look to for updates. We would love to update each and every one of you personally but we simply can’t, as there just isn’t enough time in the day. While you will hear from us, you will also hear from family members and maybe even his brothers.
When each of us looks at our children for the first time and holds their sweet, warm little body, we inevitably think what will life’s journey hold for this child? What will their life be in 1, 5, 10 or 50 years? While these pages are about what is happening in Declan’s life now, we do not believe they will in any way be the sum of him…merely a step down his life’s journey. We know that he and we will fight to overcome this illness and look forward to the day when we can all put this illness behind us. So here goes…the beginning to Declan’s Journey…
